About Peek-A-Boo Trails

Development of a year-round, non-motorized biking trail has been a primary objective of Clark Township's master recreation plan for several years. The concept of a professionally designed and constructed mountain biking trail has received major support from community businesses, residents, and area agencies alike.

This project — named Peek-A-Boo Trails — is scheduled for completion in Summer / Fall 2024 and will provide a unique addition to a growing local network of hiking and walking trails as well as a legitimate attraction for visitor recreational activity. Tourists to Clark Township’s marinas and resorts often bring their bikes on vacation, looking for sites to ride. Peek-A-Boo Trails will provide an excellent two-wheeled recreational option. The trail also will serve as a key link for the vibrant mountain biking communities in the northern lower peninsula and the western Upper Peninsula, adding a new reason to visit the Les Cheneaux area with a bike in tow. And, our own Eastern Upper Peninsula communities will benefit from a nearby resource to improve their own biking skills, enhance local heath, and improve new economic opportunity to cater to out-of-town guests looking for a first-rate biking experience.

The 4-mile trail will be designed to meet International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA) standards, with a 5- to 8-foot-wide natural surface stretching across a former cross country ski path. The trail will wind through cedar, pine, birch, and aspen, past a beaver pond, and provide several breathtaking vistas atop Peek-A-Boo Hill.

The trail will be designed for beginner and intermediate bike riders and incorporate a one-mile section for experienced riders seeking a more challenging route. The trail head begins about 200-feet behind an old athletic track, which could support other future recreational opportunities such as a jump-track, running track, and potentially an entire recreation park.

Clark Township is known as a resort community attracting visitors from all over the country. Generations of families have made their summer residence in Les Cheneaux and younger families continue to come. The Township hosts a number of festivals and events in all seasons, attracting thousands of tourists annually and, when coupled with the outdoor activities of snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, and golfing, the area is an all-season recreational destination.

Our new Peek-A-Boo Trails will enable locals and visitors a way to enjoy the natural beauty of the woods, promote four-season economic sustainability, and expand the variety of nature-based recreational opportunities for people of all ages.
